Following his graduation (London) in psychology & zoology in 1974, Richard trained as a
scientist-practitioner and worked as a Clinical Psychologist in the British National Health
Service for seven years, completing a PhD in clinical health psychology from the University
of Sheffield (1984). He moved to Hong Kong to work full-time at the University of Hong Kong
training medical doctors in psychology and public health at HKU and has published over 200
papers on clinical health psychology and public health. He uses integrated therapeutic
methods taking an individualized broadly eclectic problem-focused approach underpinned
by behavioural analysis to help clients take control and identify optimal solutions to life
difficulties though growth. Richard works predominantly with adults and is registered as a
Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical psychologist) with the UK Health & Care Professions
Council (registration details available on request), and as C. Psychol. and Associate Fellow of
the British Psychological Society, Fellow of the Hong Kong Psychological Society, and Fellow
of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal College of Physicians, UK. Richard also runs
workshops regionally on clinical communication training for health care practitioners with a
particular focus on chronic illness.
